Ship agents inducts new set of officers

The Philippine Ship Agents Association (PSAA) has inducted their new set of officers and directors to lead the association this coming year.

The new board is a composition of old and new faces but the most intriguing yet very historic for the group is the election of its first lady president.

Inducted no less by PPA general manager Atty. Juan Sta. Ana in a lavish ceremony held at the Le Salon of the Hyatt Hotel Casino in Manila recently was Virginia Madlang-Awa of Doña Virginia Maritima Corporation as the new PSAA president succeeding former and immediate past president Abraham Tablizo of Fair Shipping and Agency, Inc. Tablizo, however, will continue to serve the PSAA board as director.

Also inducted as vice president for internal affairs were Virgilio Angeles of Cosco Philippines Shipping, Inc. and Leo Philip Buñag of Mizzen Shipping Enterprises, Inc. as the group’s vice president for external affairs.

Senen Lazaro of Supply Oilfield Services, Inc. and Ma. Theresa Magajes of Transorient Maritime Agencies, Inc. have been inducted as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively.

The other directors, on the other hand, were Ernan De Leon of Global Ship Management & Marine Services, Inc.; Joselito Ilagan of TMS Ship Agencies, Inc.; Ricardo Jamandre of Ben Line Agencies Philippines, Inc.; Rogelio Salonga of RCS Shipping Agencies, Inc.; Arnel San Diego of Wallem Philippines Shipping, Inc.; Ruben Santos of Petro-Bulk Maritime Services, Inc.; Jesus Verocel of Blue Sea Shipping Logistics, Inc.; Raoul Viray of Philman Shipping Incorporated; and Robert Yu of Sky International, Inc.

In her speech, Madlang-Awa urges her membership to work hand-in-hand to achieve greater heights just like what her predecessors did in their terms.

Madlang-Awa also said that being the first woman president of the group, she will likewise pursue quality and efficiency of the group and each member firms and vowed continuity of projects that her predecessors have started.

For next year, PSAA is bullish about their business outlook anchored on the strong performance of the country’s foreign trade particularly inbound cargoes. ?
